Efficiency of an Air Filter: Media Selection

The efficiency of an air filter is its ability to remove a given percentage of particles of a given size over a specified period of time for a stated air volume. While the type of filter media used will play a major part, many other factors have to be taken into account in the actual design of the filter – which is the skill of NFC Specialist Products engineers. The significance of efficiency is expressed thus:

A 99.99999 per cent filter is 10 times more efficient than that of 99.9999 per cent and 100 times more efficient than 99.999 per cent, and 1000 times more efficient than a filter rated at 99.99 per cent.

Where gases and odours need to be removed activated carbon can be incorporated, either as a base or impregnated depending on the type of contaminant to be removed. Activated carbon filters can be combined with particulate filters to provide complete protection against particulates, gases and odours.
